In How to produce music - Part 3 we have created a basic driving bassline and a varied drum loop. In this article, I will discuss adding FX to your bassline to make it sound a little better and then move on to samples, creating and loading audio tracks as well as discus rises and crashes. I would also like to have a small discussion about production gear and what I believe to be necessary for beginners and what you can start saving for in future. Let's get on with it!

Welcome to Part 3 of our music production article series. In How to produce music - Part 2 we installed all the required software, plug-ins and sample packs and worked with percussion and made a basic drum loop to use with our project. If you have not worked through part 2 yet, please complete Part 2 before continuing with Part 3. You can do this by clicking the link above.

In this article I will show you how to make a driving bassline as well as how to alternate your percussion to give it variation and keep your track from sounding monotonous. Now, without any further a due, lets jump right into it and continue this tutorial.

We have all been in some state of euphoria while on the dance floor and the thought of producing your own track might have crossed your mind at some stage. However, it is not just a case of getting some software and start producing right away. The process of refining your skills as a producer can take up to months and even years. This article will be focused on getting you up to speed with what is required to get you started on your journey to start producing your own music.

Welcome back! Last month we touched on the basics of creating a percussion sequence making use of beats, bars and phrases. After publishing Part 1, I came across Cakewalk by BandLab and found the DAW to be a lot more functional and the best of all is that it is completely free. I also found some similarities between it and Ableton Live (used by the likes of Mr SUb, Battlefloor and Key to Insaniity) as far as the workflow is concerned (might take some heat for making that statement).
